2013 Alliance Membership Meeting

The Alliance's 2013 Membership Meeting will be held October 24-25 in Washington, DC, at The Fairfax at Embassy Row.

The 2013 Membership Meeting will formally begin with a plenary luncheon featuring a guest speaker (TBD), to be followed by a business meeting, an array of break out sessions with ECA program staff (on the afternoon of October 24 and the morning of October 25), as well as an evening reception on October 24. A preliminary meeting agenda is available below.

Two pre-conference sessions will be held on the morning of October 24—a workshop focused on ways to enhance the cultural component (additional cost: $200 per participant), and a workshop for leaders within the Alliance to discuss the rapidly evolving policy climate facing the exchange community and ways to respond to these challenging circumstances (this workshop is for member organization senior leadership and by invitation only).

Registration for the Membership Meeting is now closed. Please email Lisa Heyn (lheyn@alliance-exchange.org) with any questions, modifications, or registration cancelations. The deadline to cancel your conference registration is Thursday, October 17.

2013 Membership Meeting Preliminary Agenda

Thursday, October 24

Pre-conference sessions

9:00 am - 12:00 pm
The Cultural Component: Enhancing program quality, shaping the mindset of cultural exchange

Rewarding cultural opportunities are a critical aspect of exchange program success. This pre-conference session will examine new and creative ways to fulfill the cultural component: that is, to facilitate enriching cultural experiences for each and every exchange program participant. This interactive workshop will examine the various ways in which sponsors across the Alliance membership are working to provide these valuable opportunities. It will also look at the positive effects these efforts are having on the experiences and mindsets of not only participants, but also hosts, and even sponsor staff.

This session will provide ample opportunity for discussion of both sponsor best practices in cultural component fulfillment, as well as the challenges sponsors face in providing cultural opportunities to their participants. Substantive group discussions by program category will be a major feature of the workshop.

The workshop will be beneficial for a range of Alliance member staff (from senior management to junior programmer), and will focus on cultural exchange programs with a work-based component.

10:00 am - 12:00 pm
Leadership conversation

This discussion session will engage senior Alliance members in a candid conversation on the rapidly evolving policy climate facing the exchange community. It will provide an opportunity for leaders within the Alliance membership to discuss how we best respond to these changing and challenging circumstances.

This workshop is for member organization leadership and by invitation only. Further information on workshop content and email invitations are forthcoming.
