On March 18, Sima Samar, M.D., chair of the Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission, offered a rare look at the challenges of Afghanistan women as part of the 2014 Justice for Women Lecture Series. More than 200 students, community leaders, and area residents attended the live event, and over 80 SWT alumni from 18 countries participated through live streaming.

Earlier this month, ten Romanian and Moldovan Summer Work Travel (SWT) alumni met in Bucharest to explore the possibility of creating an alumni network in Romania. A lively, far-ranging conversation included ideas on how to stay connected to the U.S. and each other, and all agreed it was important to perpetuate the exchange begun on their program in the U.S.
