This past July, CENET hosted its 3rd annual G.O.A.L.S. Camp (Global Outlook and Local Soccer) for area students entering 2nd-8th grade. 

The 2013 G.O.A.L.S. Camp followed a World Safari theme as students were exposed to the people, places, and animals from around the world. The schedule included morning soccer with local and international coaches, afternoon workshops with a focus on international education, daily swimming, and a Friday field trip to the St. Louis Zoo.

Sushania is a three-time CCI Greenheart J-1 Summer Work Travel participant from Jamaica. This year, Sushania is working at Federal Jacks Restaurant and Brewpub in Kennebunkport, Maine. She is also the recipient of the CCI Greenheart Ambassador Scholarship that rewards active volunteer service during the Summer Work Travel program with a full reimbursement of the program fee upon completion of scholarship requirements.

On Thursday, June 27th Spirit Cultural Exchange hosted a cultural activity trip to Madison, Wisconsin for a small group of nine Summer Work Travel participants living nearby in Wisconsin Dells. The event included a free tour of the Madison State Capitol Building, a visit to Congressman Mark Pocan’s office, and an exploration of downtown Madison and the University of Wisconsin’s beautiful campus.

On July 10, CCI Greenheart J-1 Summer Work Travel participants from all over the world descended on Mount Rushmore in the Black Hills region of South Dakota to clean-up this vast national memorial. After an orientation from the park staff, the participants got to work, picking up trash around the memorial grounds.

On June 1, 2013 Chloe Haggard, a South African au pair with Au Pair in America, took part in the Best Buddies Challenge at Hyannis Port, MA. This was a ride hosted by Best Buddies International, a non-profit organization established in 1989 by Anthony Kennedy Shriver. Best Buddies International is dedicated to establishing a global volunteer movement that creates opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment, leadership development and more inclusion within schools, communities and the workplace for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Emily Johnson grew up with a passion for horticulture, spending her youth helping her parents with their vegetable and flower gardens and become more enthusiastic about plants and horticulture systems with each passing year. After graduating form Whitman College in Walla Walla, WA with a degree in Geology Chemistry in May of 2012, Emily embarked on an internship through the Communicating for Agriculture Education Programs (CAEP) to expand her knowledge of sustainable horticulture.
