Secretary of State addresses 10,000 Women entrepreneurship program

Earlier today, Secretary of State John Kerry delivered opening remarks to the inaugural Goldman Sachs 10,000 Women/U.S. State Department entrepreneurship program.  Through this initiative, 29 women from 15 Middle Eastern countries will take part in a 2-week seminar focused on entrepreneurial skills training.

Throughout his speech, Kerry brought to light a variety of facts, one being that women only participate at half the rate in the Middle Eastern economy in comparison to the rest of the world. Kerry stated that, “When women are able to join the work force, GDP goes up and it goes up fast.”

The mission of the 10,000 Women program is thus brought to light in Secretaries Kerry’s final remarks:

“Our responsibility is clear: To invest in women, to level the playing field so women have access to opportunities and rights.”
