Sonenshine sworn in as Under Secretary for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs

Following her confirmation by the Senate last week, Tara Sonenshine was sworn in as Under Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs yesterday.

In her new capacity, Sonenshine will oversee the Department of State’s bureaus of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA), Public Affairs (PA), and International Information Programs (IIP) and will participate in U.S. foreign policy development, according to a Department of State statement:

“As Under Secretary, she leads America's public diplomacy outreach, which includes communications with international audiences, cultural programming, academic grants, educational exchanges, international visitor programs, and U.S. Government efforts to confront ideological support for terrorism.”
