Confirmation delays continue to plague USAID

Delays in the Senate and the Obama administration have left the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) with only one of its twelve Senate-confirmed posts filled, reports today.

USAID Administrator Rajiv Shah was confirmed on December 24, 2009, more than a year into the Obama administration; several other nominees for leadership positions were approved by a Senate Foreign Relations Committee voice vote but “did not make the cut on the [full] Senate’s list of 51 nominees approved by unanimous consent just before the chamber departed for recess on August 5.”
