The Alliance issued the following statement in response to Sen. Mark Udall's (D-CO) recent letter to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, requesting a review of the Department of State's Exchange Visitor Program:

The Alliance is pleased to announce that its 2012 Advocacy Day activities will be held February 29 and March 1, 2012 in Washington. An in-depth advocacy training session, as well as an issues briefing, will be held on February 29, while your Capitol Hill meetings will take place on March 1 (with a breakfast prep and strategy session to kick off the day).

Please mark your calendars for this important activity and keep an eye out for registration details this winter. (Participation in Advocacy Day is reserved for Alliance Full Members only.)

AED announced yesterday that it has signed an asset purchase agreement with the global health organization FHI, in which FHI will “acquire the programs, expertise, and other assets of AED”:

The American Council on Education (ACE) announced it is seeking a Director of Programs. According to ACE, the Director of Programs is responsible for management of a program focused on building the capacity of higher education institutions to contribute to international development. The Director develops and manages elements of the Higher Education in Development (HED) Program in accordance with the guidance of the HED Board and USAID. The Director manages a staff of 9 to 12 FTE and serves as a member of the HED Management Team.

Jim Doumas, Executive Vice President and Interim CEO of Sister Cities International, testified this morning in front of the House Appropriations State-Foreign Operations Subcommittee, speaking in support of Department of State international exchange programs. Specifically, Doumas called for the subcommittee to fully fund the President’s FY 2012 budget request of $637.1 million for State exchange programs. Doumas noted:

The 2011 Membership Meeting will get started on the morning of November 8 with a new feature: two pre-conference workshops, one on J-1 best practices and another focusing on Congressional advocacy and the current state of the federal spending debate.

WASHINGTON, DC – As a part of its 2011 Advocacy Day activities last week, the Alliance was pleased to announce the launch of its Raise Your Voice for International Exchange campaign.

With the 112th Congress embroiled in a bitter budget battle, the outcome of which could have a significant impact on international exchange programs, Alliance members came out in record numbers last week for our 11th annual Advocacy Day—96 participants from 26 Alliance member organizations, representing 30 states and the District of Columbia (all new Advocacy Day highs), participated in this yearly trip to Capitol Hill.
