A new survey reveals that nearly 40 percent of U.S. higher education institutions are seeing a drop in the amount of applications from international students. At 39 percent, the highest declines involved undergraduate applications from the Middle East, as reported by Inside Higher Ed. More than 250 U.S.

The American Academy of Diplomacy and the Council of American Ambassadors call on Congress to reject the proposed budget cuts to the U.S. Department of State. In a public letter addressed to congressional leadership, the group of distinguished former American diplomats argue that cutting funds for diplomatic efforts at this level would pose serious risks to American security.

A new report by the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and its Commission on Language Learning offers an examination of the current state U.S. language education, as well as five key capacity-building recommendations for improving access to it. According to Section 4 of the report, the United States should “promote opportunities for students to travel, experience other cultures, and learn languages in other countries by immersing themselves in multilingual environments.”

The Secretary's Office of Global Partnerships at the U.S. Department of State issued the latest State of Global Partnerships Report, outlining the progress of public-private partnerships in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The report highlights strides made towards Goal 4, which focuses on quality education, through World Learning’s Digital Youth Virtual Exchange Program, and iEarn-USA’s BRIDGE program (Building Respect through International Dialogue and Global Education).

International mobility of Australian university students has largely increased since last year, according to the most recent release of an annual survey of Australian universities administered by the Australian Government’s Department of Education and Training. Data collected from 36 universities indicate a 19.5% increase in the number of international experiences reported since 2014. Most notably, student exchange programs and faculty-led study tours were the most popular types of international experiences, at 28% and 26% respectively.
